Back home in

El Paso, Texas

You can't go home, but you can go back. I was glad to see that the old homestead where I grew up in Loma Terrace had been renovated and is looking good again!

H&H Car Wash is an El Paso institution... if you ever see El Paso on any national TV event, they always give a plug to H&H. It's reputation is well deserved as the food is just plain great. I am pleased to consider Maynard and Kenny Haddad my friends; but that's easy.... everybody is their friend. This day they were visited by Miner Asst. Basketball Coach Milt Waggoner.... Go Miners!

Speaking of institutions, Jay J. Armes is one too. Good Coffee... that's how Coffee got here name. Oh yeah, and Carol belongs in an institution!

That's the Radio Hospital on Rio Grand St. that Rod Davenport has purchased an restored. He tells me that Price's Creameries is going to set up an ice cream shop to benefit the Austin High Booster Club. Great work Rod!

And a real institution that few of you know personally, but represents El Paso of yesteryear. That's Carmen Lopez who as a young man of 18 (he's now in his 80's) joined my father as a lifelong employee and confidant. He an my dad single handedly built just about every building my dad ever owned. A master carpenter, mason, electrician and plumber, Carmen was the work role-model for me and my son as well.

The only back yard Coffee has every known is the Meece's and she loves it. I've even got her trained to show Tom where the jackpot is; and he's trained to scoop!

Ben Ivey was generous enough to let me camp at this Northeast Mobile Home park. What tranny trouble?

For many a year, we've had a Friday tradition of lunch with the guys. We go to various places, but the home base has been Su Casa on Yandell. Our waitress Mary Flores has been a real "Mother-Hen" to us youngsters. Papaburgers (Piedras at Memphis) gives Roscoe's a run for it's money as El Paso's best burger... and L&J at the graveyard is a perennial fav.

That's Commander and Spike admiring Eric's new Bullet Mustang. Richard was the consulting engineer for my battery charger... that's his prototype and his garage, complete with a bar. I also got some good help from Juan Velasco at Auto Electric Company. And everyone can always use a good Stify!
